Guest Blog Post

Building a Career in the Fashion and Beauty Industries
Fashion, makeup and hairstyling are things that cross the mind of a person, male or female as it would apply, almost every day.  Some take it beyond thinking and expand it to a hobby of sort by studying the latest beauty and fashion trends and trying to replicate it on their own.  Then there are those that can’t imagine their mind being occupied by anything less and they hope their passion will lead to a career.
It is one thing to decide you want to have a career in fashion, makeup or hairstyling but it is quite another to be a success at it.  There are things you can do, no matter your age, to make sure you set yourself up to succeed and the steps are quite simple.
The first thing you need to realise is that if you do decide to make a career in any part of the fashion or beauty industries then you have to get it front and centre in your mind that your name is going to be a part of your brand.  That means you must guard your reputation and professionalism as if it were already worth millions of dollars.  One mistake is that people often want to wait to get ready when the opportunity is there when the right frame of mind is to be ready when the opportunity presents itself.  Conducting yourself as a professional with a brand worth millions on the line is important years before the success occurs.
The first thing you should do is buy your domain name now.  You don’t have to set up a Web site or do anything with it but you definitely need to buy it and keep it and safeguard it.  The cost if you search for a discount code online with a major domain name seller like GoDaddy can be as low as $3 to as much as $14.  You might want to consider buying other domain names such as “yournameFashion” or “yournameStylist” or “yournameMUA” (Makeup Artist) as it would apply to your career goals.  It is up to you but if you plan on being a success don’t wait till someone else realises your potential and buys the domain name out from under you.
The next thing you need to do is remember that what you do now does have an impact on your future.  Clean up your social media presence and keep it squeaky clean and professional from now on.  Make your posts always reflective of your professional brand whether you are a teenager or an upcoming professional.  NEVER criticise anyone or any other brand.  One day you might criticise someone’s makeup and then find yourself working as an assistant to the makeup artist that did that look.  You may forget that little Facebook rant but there is a good chance the MUA Pro did not.  It is just good manners and shows you can conduct yourself both professionally and in private (your personal life) in a manner in which an agency or another professional would want to associate with in business opportunities.
Take advantage of making connections online.  Rather than caring if a celebrity is doing this or that and following them in social media fill your social media time in making connections with those that can actually help launch your career.  Follow agencies, educators and professionals in your field, and the actual beauty editors of trade magazines.  Definitely follow, learn and connect to those that are successful in your field.  Some are quite untouchable while others are fantastic to assist and give advice.  Some great professionals to follow on Twitter are Sam Fine (@SamFineBeauty on Twitter) and Karla Powell (@KarlaPowellMUA on Twitter) both of which are successful makeup artists and are happy to engage with their followers.  There are numbers of fashion designers, fashion stylists, beauty editors, makeup artists, hairstylists, editorial photographers, videographers and nail technicians that are excellent to follow and learn from.  Next time you have a fashion magazine in your hand look for the credits and then search online to see if those professionals are on Twitter (http://www.twitter.com) or Facebook (http://www.facebook.com .  Follow or friend them and then learn and network.  Take care to follow those that can teach you things related to your industry but outside of it such as a fashion stylist that can tell you what they like in the hairstylists they work with or from photographers that can tell you what makeup mistakes are often made in editorial shoots that appear different in print than in person.
There are also excellent educators to learn from such as agents in your chosen field or those that have made a career of helping freelancers get into the high levels of the fashion and beauty industries such as Crystal Wright the past freelance agent and author of “Crystal Wright's Hair Makeup & Fashion Styling Career Guide” (@Crytal_Wright on Twitter).  She has an active presence on both Twitter and Facebook and shares helpful information to upcoming freelancers.  Following the social media accounts of educators within colleges and programs are helpful as well.
It goes without saying that getting a solid education is a must.  Read as much as possible and study on your own as well as getting as much formal education as you can from those that can help your career.  It might be taking formal classes at a school or college or it might be taking private lessons from a tailor or professional makeup artist.  Seek out internships both for the experience as well as the connections it could offer your career.  Volunteer your services to organisations, fashion shows, and charity events to get more experience and connections.
Record your work and make sure to take pictures so that you have a record of your work but also to study and self-critique.  When you do decide to share your work, whether in pictures, videos or in blog posts, present your work as a professional and use the best high quality images making sure to look beyond the work and at the quality as well as the background of the pictures or videos.
Network with other up and coming professionals in associated fields to your own. For instance, if you want to make a career in fashion photography then network with nail technicians, fashion stylists, MUAs and hairstylists and offer free pictures for them to use for their portfolios.  Then you are building a wide portfolio for yourself as well as making connections that may carry over into the years ahead.  Always give credit to the other professionals that collaborate with you on projects when sharing your work.
Following your passion and making it your career is exciting.  The steps you take now can either hinder you or set the path for success.  By treating your name and your image, both in public and in your private life, as professional and a brand is the main step in making things move toward a successful career.  Learning all you can and making connections in the right place is another.  The other key aspect to a successful career in the fashion and beauty industries is to keep in mind the path may be difficult and you may find yourself in moments of doubt but it is perseverance and determination that will help you reach your career goals.

Bullying!

This is my 50th post and probably the most important post out of them all.

This a different sort of post for me, it's very personal to me but I thought that this issue is so well known but needs to be solved.

I think a lot of people get bullied and it's the worst experience for anyone and it should be stopped.

There's two types of bullying- Cyber and Physical there both as bad as each other it effects everyone mentally. I've suffered both but I found just words are the most hurtful and it truly affected me.

So many people kill themselves because of bullying and everyone deserves to have a happy life, I got told I should jump of a cliff and kill myself which was the worse thing someone ever said to me and it really upset me and shuck me up.

I suffered bullying on and off for many years, the first time was when I was 10/11, then the second time when I was 13 and then the last time was when I was 15, it was the worst years of my life, I was so unhappy and lonely, I used to cry myself to sleep. My parents did know but I just said I was fine and it didn't bother me but I lied because I didn't want school to be involved because I thought it would make it worse. I used to not retaliate and say nothing, I wish I had stood up for myself that's what I regret. I did things that I'm ashamed of and wish I hadn't done it but at the time I thought it was the best way of expressing how I was feeling.

What I found worse was been bullied by someone who I thought was my friend, you never aspect someone who you tell most things to, to turn around and be so horrible and nasty to you, I was worried that they would tell people personal stuff I had told them so I still find it really hard to trust people.

Bullying never truly leaves you, I've been told I'm ugly and fat and it still sticks with me, when people say I'm pretty it does make me feel better about myself but it's still in the back of my mind that there lying and I'm just ugly and fat.

I hope know one has to feel the way I did, it was truly awful and the worse part of my life for me.

Whatever a bully says don't listen to them your all beautiful and perfect the way you are and shouldn't change for anyone.
I know it sounds cliche but it does get better, it sometimes does take longer than others but it will get better and everyone should stay strong.

You should tell someone let your parents, teachers, friends whoever you trust let them know and they can deal with it, know one deserves to be bullied and it should be stopped.

BULLYING SHOULD STOP!

I hope this post helps anyone that is suffering from bullying or has been bullied. It took me a while to write this and it was very hard for me to talk about it but I hope it can help any of you.

I just want to let all of you know, if you ever need to talk about anything, I'm always here for you, just contact me through twitter ashleighcarrxx or email me acmakeuplover@gmail.com or leave a comment below and I will reply to all of you.

Guest Post-Skincare

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to India for doing the post, she's an amazing and such a sweet blogger and we have become good friends, go follow her blog. http://thejewelbeauty.blogspot.co.uk/
Hey Lovelies!
I am really happy to be doing a skincare themed guest post for the very lovely Ashleigh today. Me and Ashleigh have become good friends through blogging & twitter, and it's an honour to do a post on her lovely blog.
More about me ? - My name is India-Robyn and I'm a 20 year old beauty addict, and a Business & Management student. I also run the "Jewel Beauty Blog" which is a beauty based blog, with Fashion & Lifestyle posts as well. I hope you all enjoy this post, and would love for you to check my blog out if you haven't already!.
Temple Spa - Peace Be Still Face And Body Balm

About the brand
Temple Spa is a British skincare spa brand which is sold at Selfridge's & Harrods in London, as well as Online via their website. "Temple Spa is a total lifestyle brand that seeks to beautifully fuse product, philosophy and spa. Our passion is professional-standard skin care and body care, aromatherapy and spa treatments that replenish, revive, renew and love to treat people very well."
 What I like ?
I have really come to love Peace Be Still recently as it is a multifunctional product, which is perfect for travelling around with. It's ingredients consist of  Vitamin B, Lemon, Coriander, Nutmeg, Lignum Vitae/Guaiacum. It is extremely soothing, and I love applying this to relieve the areas of redness which I get on my face. It can also be used as a hand lotion and body moisturiser, which make it a great everyday/holiday essential. You can purchase it in 150ml for £18.00, but also in a 50ml version for £5.00. Overall, it's a really great product which can be used for face, hands & body making it super versatile (with a lovely fresh smell).
 What I don't like ?
There is nothing about Temple Spa which I dislike, the products they make are lovely and also paraben free. However, Temple Spa is a high end skincare range which means it is quite expensive to buy the full size products. However, they do offer a great range of travel size products which are affordable, and allow you to try smaller sizes of each product first.
Thanks for reading my post!
Love India X
Hope you enjoy the post.
Thank you to India for the lovely post :).

The Beauty Blogger Tag

I saw this tag on Countess de Blush's blog and thought it was quite a good tag so I decide to do it.

1. Is your hair naturally curly or straight?
My hair is naturally wavy so its in between curly and straight but I would say it's more straight than curly.

2. What is your natural hair colour?
I have naturally mousse brown hair but since dying it my hair as gone a darker brown than before.

3. Do you dye it yourself or go to a salon?
When I had blonde hair I had it done by a hairdresser but when I dyed it purple and brown I just dyed it myself but I think I much prefer hairdressers because it's less likely to go wrong but it is more expensive.

4. How often do you wash your hair?
I wash my hair every other day or every two days, I know your not supposed to wash it all the time because it can damage your hair.

5. Do you wear the same style every day or change it?
I do mostly change it, when I don't have enough time, I will put it in a bun or ponytail or plaits but when I have more time I like to straighten it, so it depends on how much time I have and if I can be bothered to do anything with it.

6. Do you do your own mani/pedi or go to a salon?
I mostly do it myself but if it's a special occasion I go to the salon.
7. How often to you change your nail polish?
I wear till it starts to chip a lot but sometimes I don't wear it to give my nails a break so they don't go weak.

8. Do you polish your toes in the winter, too or just in the summer?
I mainly wear it more in summer but sometimes I do wear it in winter but it doesn't bother me if my toes aren't painted.

9. How long does it take to put on your makeup?
If I have more time I take my time and takes me 30/45 minutes but if I'm in a rush I do it in about 10/15 minutes.

10. What do you do first? Face or eyes?
I usually do my face first, if I'm wearing a dark smokey eye I will do my eyes first because of fall out.

11. Do you "collect" makeup or just buy what you need when you need it?
I do collect makeup I have quite a lot of makeup but with my foundation I buy a couple then buy it when it's starting to run out.

12. How often do you wear false eyelashes?
Not very often sometimes when I'm going out at night I might wear them but I prefer just using mascara.

13. Do you do a full face of makeup every day?
If I'm going out ill wear a full face of makeup, if I'm not going anywhere and just staying in I don't wear a full face of makeup because there's no point.

14. Do you wear makeup when you are home alone (or with family)?
When I'm home alone I don't wear makeup, if I'm going out with family somewhere I will wear makeup but if I'm just visiting them I don't always wear makeup but it's a personal decision if you want to wear it or not, it's not up to anyone else.
15. Will you leave the house without makeup?
Depending where I'm going, if I'm visiting family I don't always wear it, if I'm going to college, shopping, restaurant then I will always wear it but I feel more confident when I wear makeup, so that's why I wear it mostly.

16. How many high end products do you have?
I have quite a few mac products and I do like high end products but I can't always afford it I'm a students so I mainly have drugstore/high street products.

17. How often do you wash your makeup brushes?
Once a week.

It's kinda a bit of both I may think about what I might wear the night before but don't pick it out till I'm getting dressed.

When I have college I have a bigger bag that I use but when I'm going out I have a different bag and I will change that bag whenever I decide to.

20. What time do you get up & go to sleep?
It's been the holidays so Ive been going to bed at 12:30-1:30am and getting up about 9:30-10:00 am but when I go back to college I usually go to bed about 10:30pm and get up at 6:30am.

21. How often & when do you workout?
I don't really workout that's probably bad but I do walk a lot and go on my wii but I don't always have time.

22. Left-handed or Right-handed?
Right handed like many people

23. How tall are you?
I am 5ft2 so I am small.

Yeah I do, I reply to all of them and always look at links sent in comments.

28. Do you keep a list of products to try as you see other posts?
Sometimes, if I think the products look good then I might buy them but sometimes when I'm in Boots or Superdrug I just buy what I think looks nice and try it then put a post on it.

29. How did you come up with your blog name?
AC is my initials for my first and last name, I love makeup and that's what my blog is mainly about so I decide on makeup lover.

30. What kind of camera do you use for photographs?
I just use my camera on my phone, my phone is a Sony Ericsson Xperia Arc S, it has a good camera.

31. How often do you clean your house? (Daily, weekly, other)
I'm still at home so I clean my room weekly and will do other jobs round the house so my mum mainly does most of the cleaning round the house and she does it weekly.
32. What is your favourite colour?
I think most people know but it is purple.
33. What is your favourite beauty/fashion magazine?
I love Glamour magazine and other magazines for there beauty samples, for a fashion magazine probably Vogue.

34. Do you swear?
I do swear but I'm not like someone that constantly swear, I just swear sometimes, I don't think there's a need for swearing all the time but it doesn't bother me if people do swear, it's a personal decision if you want to swear or not.

35. What are you doing with the rest of your day?
I'm either going out or just have a relaxing day and watch tv and films.
Hope everyone has a nice day.
